Telephone Solicitation Relief Act of 2001

7/5/01 Background

On May 24, 2001, Governor Foster signed into law House Bill 175, the "Telephone Solicitation Relief Act of 2001," which provides for the creation of a "do not call" list of residential telephone subscribers relative to telephone solicitation.

The legislation outlines the duties of the Louisiana Public Service Commission and gives the commission until January 1, 2002 to promulgate rules and regulations concerning customer notification, database management and other administrative matters.

Response statement

The Louisiana Public Service Commission is working diligently to develop rules and regulations concerning customer notification, database management and other administrative matters associated with the enactment of the "Telephone Solicitation Relief Act of 2001" ("Do Not Call").  Although the legislation gives the commission until January 1, 2002 to accomplish this important and complex task, the commission is committed to promulgating the rules as quickly as possible.
